Hence, 24 April is celebrated as Konkani Film Day. Mogacho Anvddo, was released on 24 April 1950, and was produced and directed by Jerry Braganza, a native of Mapusa, under the banner of ETICA Pictures. The first full-length Konkani film was Sukhi Konn produced by GMB Rodrigues in 1949 but was never released. This was another increase over a total films made until 2009 as documented by Isidore Dantas in his book Konkani Cholchitram. Īs of 2018, when the Indian film industry celebrated its centennial, a total of 145 feature films were released.

Music is also different from the traditional Konkani songs. The story is something different from other usual movies. When Harry Fernandes willingly accepted my idea, it boosted my confidence.

Since Ujwadu, a 2011 Konkani film directed by Kasargod Chinna and produced by KJ Dhananjaya and Anuradha Padiyar there has been no Mangalorean Konkani film until, Henry D’Silva’s ‘Nashibaso Khel’ (Game of fate) Most of the years since then saw a single Konkani film release, but there have been a spate of releases in the last 4 years – 16.

The First Mangalorean dialect full length feature film Mog Ani Moipass came out in 1977 and the industry has not looked back since. Despite this there have been nearly 47 films since 1950 which saw the first full length feature film being released in the Goan dialect ‘Mogaso Anvaddo’ by Jerry Braganza. The industry is limited by its fragmented audience and inadequate government support. Konkani films come in three distinct dialects Goan, Southern Saraswat and Mangalorean to cater to those specific linguistic communities and therein lies the dilemma of the Konkani Film industry.
